WRITER'S BLOCK

Updated: Aug 23, 2020

I am absolutely.. without a doubt.. undeniably.. stuck! Help get me out!!!

Writer's Block has no respect of person and it comes when you least expect it. I've been there!

“The wonderful thing about writing is that there is always a blank page waiting. The terrifying thing about writing is that there is always a blank page waiting.” J.K. Rowling

My intention with this piece is to help you escape Writer's Block and never feel it again. Some writers feel that Writer's Block is mental, some feel that it's emotional, and some feel that it doesn't exist. However, I've been in a flow of writing and have lost momentum for hours and sometimes.. days. I hope this can help you!

I'm Over It

So! I have 7 notebooks. Yes! I have 7 NOTEBOOKS and maybe a few more. But here is why:

Whenever I got an idea, thought, or any form of detail to add to whatever I was writing, I always wrote it down on random pieces of paper. I became tired of trying to piece the papers together from every purse/bag that I had worn. I purchased notebooks (festive ones) that I could keep with me. I have a notebook for each purse and one in the glove box of my car.

For me, having a notebook allowed me to pick up where I left off and it gave me a momentum to keep writing so that I could have a complete thought.

When you quickly jot a thought down, write it with the intention of completing the thought. For example:

You get the thought, "9 Chapters." Instead of writing down "9 Chapters," write "The book will have 9 Chapters. The first chapter will be titled "Joy."

When you go back to this particular thought and read it, it will give you a reminder of how you felt when you wrote the thought down. It will also nudge you to continue to write more. When you randomly write down just a word or a bullet point, it stifles your thought process and your imagination. You have to write down complete thoughts.

In my schedule time, I commit at least an hour of writing time NO MATTER WHAT. If you can't keep a promise to yourself, you may want to start learning how to do so. Easier said than done right? Well here is my profile: I run 2 businesses, I have a 1 year old, I have a 6 year who has school along with drama, choir, and Taekwondo classes, I'm also a homemaker that has plenty of house chores, I'm a wife, author, and minister in training. Not to mention the other projects that I have in the works.

The bottom line is this, you have to find a method that works for you and a space that will allow you to embrace your writing gift. The perfect set up for me is my laptop, a dark room, orange oil in an oil diffuser, multiple pillows of all sizes, a drink of some sort, a musical playlist, and a snack. Oh, and saying a little prayer before you start is good too :-)

If you have any questions, please contact me. I will do my best to help!
